NorthEdge Capital gears up for growth from No 1.

NorthEdge Capital is targeting an ambitious growth plan after announcing its move to No.1 Spinningfields and two new appointments following a period of sustained expansion across the North of England and the Midlands.

The move represents a significant upgrade to a larger headquarters for the private equity firm. NorthEdge has taken just over 5,500 sq. ft on the 13th floor at the Grade A office block in Manchester’s commercial district, having previously occupied around 3,000 sq. ft at Vantage Point.

The move is set to facilitate the further growth of NorthEdge’s Northern operation, which begins with two new appointments to its Investment and Portfolio teams.

John Breheny joins NorthEdge as a Director. Previously John was at Deloitte where he worked for 13 years, including the past 10 years in the Manchester Corporate Finance team, leading a wide range of local, national and international private equity transactions. At NorthEdge, John will work alongside Partner and Head of North West Jon Pickering to source and transact new investments from the Manchester office.

NorthEdge also announces the appointment of Jordana Cropper as Portfolio Manager to support Head of Portfolio Ian Plumb and Portfolio Director Ben Wildsmith who work on NorthEdge’s existing investment companies. Jordana has significant experience managing major restructuring projects at EY and internal IT and infrastructure investments at The Co-operative Group.

These appointments increase the headcount to 30, including 22 investment specialists based in Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham. NorthEdge has completed 23 investments and eight exits across its three offices since February 2013, establishing itself as a leading buy-out firm focused on the North of England and the Midlands.

Grant Berry, Managing Partner at NorthEdge Capital, said: “This move marks the next chapter in NorthEdge’s expansion and is a culmination of strong growth at the firm and an ambition to build on that further. We have expanded our portfolio across additional regions and sectors in recent years, and we will continue to make new appointments to our team to support our existing portfolio and new business ambitions from this new landmark development in the heart of Manchester.

“We are pleased to also reaffirm our commitment to the regional economies with the appointments of John and Jordana, who offer the expertise and experience we need to expand our reach to more talented management teams and provide the best possible service to our existing portfolio.”

OBI Property acted on behalf of NorthEdge on the move to No1. Spinningfields and provided the interior design and project management to complete the office fit-out.

Adam McLoughlin, building consultancy, OBI Property said: “The whole team at OBI Property worked closely with NorthEdge to accelerate the fit-out programme enabling NorthEdge to move in just six weeks after we started on site.

“The original design objectives set out for the space have been achieved and the look and feel of the space, which is contemporary, sophisticated and corporate, fits in with exactly what NorthEdge set out to achieve.”
