We’ve been based in the North of England for all of our careers. At NorthEdge we see the huge scale of opportunity that lies in the Northern market. Northern businesses are increasing market share in national and international markets. These are the companies we want to invest in: companies that share our vision, passion and ambition to create real shareholder value from the North.
The UK government has underlined its commitment to create a ’Northern Powerhouse’ in a move that will see further investment into major infrastructure projects as well as the devolution of political powers to local authorities in the region. This is expected to create thousands of jobs in the North and support the government’s goal to rebalance the economy by attracting investment outside of London.
In the past decade, the North has become the home of a national media organisation at MediaCityUK, through the creation of BBC North, and seen three of its most famous brands, Liverpool Football Club, Manchester City and Manchester United increase their presence on the global stage. In the North East, Tyneside has under-gone a reinvention and is now leading the way in scientific research, while Yorkshire hosted the inaugural ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ cycling race in 2015, attracting some of the biggest names in the sport from around the globe.
The North has nurtured a buy-out economy larger than those of Spain and Italy, comparable to the Nordics and two-thirds the size of both France and Germany. In the North, the average total annual transaction value in the £10 million to £100 million arena has been £4.5 billion over the last decade.
In a short space of time, we have built a high-quality, diverse portfolio of companies, all based in the North, with a truly national and international reach. Combined revenues for the portfolio are in excess of £500m.
We believe there has never been a better time to continue to support growth across the North.
